Mr. Frederick P. Dempsey died at his Waltham home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
Fred was born on March 19, 1940, in Lowell and was a son of the late John J. and Helen E. (Cheney) Dempsey. He was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham.
After completing his education, Fred served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1962. Following military service, he worked for several years as a truck driver for Taylor & Murphy Oil Company in Waltham until his retirement.
Fred was an active member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 953 in Waltham, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1018 in Waltham, and American Legion Nonantum Post No. 440 in Newton. He cherished these memberships and enjoyed socializing with the members.
He will be missed by his surviving family members and friends including his brother, John J. Dempsey, of Empire, Michigan; nephews Craig and Eric Dempsey; and many acquaintances from various clubs that he belonged to.
He was also the former husband of the late Kim (Gorton) Dempsey.
Family and friends will honor and remember Fred's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 1st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
