Frederick B. Sweet, III

Frederick B. Sweet, III, of York Beach, Maine died at home on Sunday, March 9, 2025 following a period of declining health. He was 83.

Fred was born and raised in Waltham, a son of the late Frederick B., Jr. and Mary (Langley) Sweet and was a graduate of Waltham High School.

Until his retirement Fred was the superintendent of building maintenance for the Town of Lexington. After that Fred and his wife Margie moved to York Beach where they enjoyed many years with visits from their family and where Fred had the time to refurbish their home.

Fred married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie M. Betts, and together they spent sixty-five happy years together.

In addition to his wife, Margie, he leaves his children, Frederick B. Sweet, IV (Teresa) of Dedham, Corrine A. Sweet of Waltham, Douglas M. Sweet (Margarita) of Stow and Edward T. Sweet (Tracy) of Waltham; his grandchildren, William, Jason, Brian, Meredith, Matthew, Douglas and Ashley Sweet; he great-grandchildren, Liliana, Brian, Grayson and Savannah Sweet; his brother, William Sweet of Waltham and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Fred was also a brother of the late Jacqueline Bauer and Joan Whitney.

Family and friends will honor and remember Fred’s life by gathering for a Morning Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, March 15th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. immediately followed by his funeral service at 12:30. Burial will be private.
