George W. Barry, Jr., of Waltham, died Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham following a period of declining health. He was 77.
George was born in Boston on February 14, 1948, the oldest of nine children born to the late George W., Sr. and Elizabeth (Hingey) Barry. He was raised in Waltham and following his marriage to Nancy M. Amico, the couple made Lowell their home.
They enjoyed twenty-eight years together until Nancy’s death in 2013. The pair enjoyed traveling throughout the country and looked forward to yearly cruises. George was also an ardent lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Until his retirement George worked for more than twenty-five years for MIT Lincoln Labs in Bedford managing their tool room. Before that he worked at Waltham’s Moe Blacks store on Lexington Street.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Nancy, he was predeceased by his brothers, David Barry, Marc Barry and Patrick Barry,
George leaves his brothers and sisters, Joseph H. Barry (Patricia), Kenneth P. Barry (Debra), all of Waltham, Cheryl B. Shanahan (Thomas) of Weymouth, Mary Hancock (late Brian) of Newton and Lynan Schueler (Daniel) of Merrimack, New Hampshire and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember George’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, March 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Lowell.
