Waltham – Mr. George A. Davidson, lifelong Waltham resident and son of the late Sidney and Kathleen (Rogerson) Davidson, died peacefully at home on Monday, April 23, 2018 after an illness. He was 66.
George was born and raised in Waltham, graduating from Waltham High School with the class of 1970. He married Annette I. Leger on March 25, 1972 in the former St. Joseph Church, served in the Army National Guard, and settled in the Cedarwood neighborhood of Waltham where he and Annette raised their children Donald, Janice, and Steven.
Much of George's career was with Polaroid Corporation in Waltham, where he began working as a manufacturing technician in 1972. He held various roles in manufacturing, coating, and instant film production until he left in 2004 to join Multilayer Coating Technologies in New Bedford. In 2007 he joined A123 Systems of Waltham where he worked in chemical coating for the production of lithium ion batteries until his retirement in 2017.
George spent his life dedicated to enjoying family and friends, remaining humble and kind to all of those he met. Whether it was a family cookout, watching the Patriots, playing touch football or a casual game of cards with friends, George consistently brought a smile, laugh, and unrelenting sense of humor that positively impacted everyone who surrounded him. He particularly loved spending time on Schoodic Lake outside of Milo, Maine, where over the years he could be seen driving his long time boat 'Old Betsy', playing horseshoes, or navigating trails with his wife and friends. George also had great pride and love for his many grandchildren. His positive presence, smile, and humor will be greatly missed.
In addition to Annette, his loving wife of 46 years, George leaves their children, Donald S. Davidson and his wife, Renee of Chelmsford, Janice K. Novello and her husband, Brian of Framingham and Steven H. Davidson and his wife, Kelly of Easton; his grandchildren, Brendon Davidson, Julia, Nicholas and Jack Novello, Grace and Olivia Davidson; his siblings, Sidney Davidson of Saunderstown, Rhode Island and Donna Donahue of Marlborough and the late Janice Call;also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember George's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, April 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning when his funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Penquis Valley High School, 48 Penquis Drive, Milo, ME 04463 ATTN: Athletic Dept / Jason Mills. A scholarship will be established at the high school to honor George's memory.
