Mr. George T. Horigan, Jr., of Brockton. died unexpectedly at his home, on Monday, May 9, 2022. He was 85. Mr. Horigan was born in Boston on August 9, 1936, and is the son of the late George and Anna (Delaney) Horigan.
Upon graduation from Hyde Park High School in 1955, George enlisted in the Navy, where he served honorably for four years. Following his discharge, he became a lineman for the New England Telephone Company, a position he held for the next 35 years. It was a successful run, as he met and married the love of his life, fathered three amazing daughters, and established countless friendships over that time. After retiring, he worked part time for Marriott, where he held various operations positions. He convinced everyone that he had an agreement that allowed him special privileges, such as making his own summer schedule and using the kitchen to cook his own breakfast.
George is survived by his beautiful wife of 59 years, Joan M. (Ford) Horigan; his daughters, Kathleen H. Alarie (Kevin) of Waltham, Kristine A. Horigan of Brookline and Elizabeth A. Powers (Stephen) of Marlborough; his siblings, Jean Brown (John) of Dedham, Richard Horigan (Jean) of Lexington, Helen Horigan (late Judith Lennett) of Roslindale and the late Edward and James Horigan; brother-in-law of MaryLou Horigan of Virginia Beach, VA, Lynn Horigan of Concord, NH, Jean Ford (Jerry Gordon) of Brookline, Thomas Ford (Mary Mayotte) of Jamaica Plain; his grandchildren Christopher and Liam Alarie, Emily Horigan, and Maeve and Keira Powers were the light of his life, and he would often tell friends and strangers alike, how proud he was of each of them. George was one of 70 first cousins and the eldest Horigan cousin. He leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
George was a skilled carpenter and all-around jack of all trades. He was generous with his time and expertise, qualities that further endeared himself to all who knew him well. In his spare time, George was an active member of the Randolph Elks Lodge #2130 and the Falmouth Men's Club. He also loved to play cribbage and golf and spend time with his family and friends on the Cape in Falmouth, drinking a Heineken on the porch watching his beloved Red Sox.
Family and friends will honor and remember George's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, May 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude's Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 p.m.
