Gorham, Maine- Mr. George T. Murray of Gorham, formerly of Mashpee and Newton, died Friday October 29, 2010 at the Scarborough Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine. He was 79.
George was born in Waltham on August 23, 1931 a son of the late David J. and Bertha ( Riley) Murray. He had lived in Newton for thirty five years and in Mashpee for twelve years, before moving to Gorham 1 ½ years ago.
Until his retirement, George had worked as a custodian for the Lexington Public Schools. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing tennis, shoveling snow, and cutting down trees. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Navy.
George leaves his wife of 57 years, Barbara A. ( Doherty) Murray, his children, George T. Murray, Jr. of Abington, Gary E. Murray of Plymouth, Gregory J. Murray of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Susan E. Murray and Stacy A. Burns both of Gorham, Maine, his brother, Edward Murray of Derry, New Hampshire; two sisters, Rita Qualters of Waltham and Eileen Giroux of Framingham, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
George was the brother of the late David Murray and Frances Powers.
Family and friends will honor and remember George’s life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Route 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 2nd, from 4-8 pm and again on Wednesday, November 3rd, where his Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 pm.
