George A. Quirk

December 23, 1922 — April 15, 2010

Waltham – Mr. George A. Quirk of Waltham, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Waltham. He was 87.

George was born and raised in Newton on December 23, 1922, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Doran) Quirk and had been a longtime Waltham resident. He was a self employed contractor for many years for M.D. Quirk and Sons located in Newton. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Newton.

During World War II he served as an aircraft armorer with the United States Army Air Corps and had been a past commander of the George D. Carson American Legion Post, # 141 in Newton. Before and after the war he was a professional baseball player for the Pawtucket Slaters/Braves.

George is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph, Charles, Henry and Robert Quirk, Alice Duffy, Mary Hemmer, and Elizabeth Farrell.

Family and friends will honor and remember George’s life by gathering for a Memorial Mass on Thursday April 29th at 6 p.m. in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham.
