Waltham – Mr. Gerald L. ‘Jerry’ Cormier, of Waltham, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Avery Manor Nursing Home in Needham. He was 82.
Jerry was born in Waltham on June 27, 1928, a son of the late Louis and Saraphine (Richard) Cormier, and was raised in New Brunswick, Canada before settling in Waltham in 1947. Until his retirement he was the owner and operator for many years of Winston Construction Company. After that Jerry became a self-employed general contractor for several years. Jerry was very involved at the French-American Victory Club in Waltham for many years serving as it's manager. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing cards with his beloved wife Rose.
He leaves his wife of sixty-one years, Rose M. (Ouellette) Cormier; his children, Claude Cormier of Waltham, Geraldine Barter of Waltham, and her companion, Joe Zdon, of Woburn, Martin Cormier and his companion, Sheryl Rudis, of Methuen, Richard Cormier and his wife, Debbie, of Billerica, Louis Cormier and his wife, Bonnie, of Waltham, Eugene Cormier and his wife, Arlene, of Hudson, Janice Caissie and her companion, Dave Heighes, of Groton, Maurice Cormier of Waltham, and Deanna Arseneau and her husband, Raymond, of Maynard; his brothers and sisters, Emery Cormier and his wife, Doris, Armand Cormier and his wife, Aurelia, Richard Cormier and his wife, Rosalyn, Zella Landry and her husband, Gerald, Norma Gautreau, and Sr. Irene Cormier, all of New Brunswick, and Claude Cormier and his wife, Claudette, of New Hampshire; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was also the father-in-law of the late Richard Barter and brother of the late Alderice Cormier.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jerry’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte.20), Waltham on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
