SHREWSBURY - Mr. Gerald F. Spillane Jr., of The Woods at Eddy Pond in Auburn, a former longtime Shrewsbury resident died Friday, December 15, 2023 in Saint Vincent Hospital after an illness. He was 75.
Gerald Francis Spillane, Jr. was born on September 4, 1948 in Worcester a son of the late Gerald F. and Claire (Bourassa) Spillane. Raised in Worcester he graduated from Saint Stephen’s High School.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” Jerry was a dedicated letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years, retiring in 2013. He served at Spencer and Marlboro. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Jerry had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his yard and gardens. In other free time he loved boating and the quiet comfort and peace of fishing and spending time outdoors.
He leaves his sons, James T. Spillane (Heather) of Maple Valley, Washington, Michael P. Spillane (Erica) of Fiskdale, Christopher J. Spillane (Amanda) of Worcester, Patrick T. Spillane (Samantha Nuzzolilo) of Auburn and Kevin G. Spillane of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren, Emma Siobhan, Sylvia, Dylan, Katelyn, Connor, Jenna, Keira, Logan and Caden; his former wife and friend, Janine T. (Duquette) Spillane of Millbury. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph.
Family and friends will honor Jerry’s life by gathering for calling hours on Wednesday, December 20th from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, followed by his funeral Mass at 11:30a.m. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
