Marshfield – Mrs. Geraldine M. 'Gerry' (Sullivan) Rayburg, of Marshfield, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Beth Israel Hospital in Needham. She was 89.
Born in Roslindale, a daughter of the late William and Marietta (Osborne) Sullivan, Gerry was raised in Newton where she graduated from high school in 1938. After that she attended secretarial school in Boston and worked as a bookkeeper for Star Market in Newtonville.
In 1944 Gerry married her late husband, Carl B. Rayburg, who died a year ago. Gerry and Carl lived in Newton where they raised their family before moving to Marshfield, where they had summered for thirty years, in 2007. For many years Gerry worked as a driver for private school and special needs students for Suburban Transportation. In her spare time Gerry was a passionate bridge player and for many years belonged to a sewing club with her high school friends.
She leaves her children, Susan A. Provoda of Feeding Hills and William H. Rayburg and his wife, Barbara, of Waltham; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Benjamin and Casey Rayburg, Kristina Skaza and Joseph Provoda; her great-grandchildren, Alex and Josh Provoda, Katie Rayburg and and Matthew Skaza and many nieces and nephews.
Gerry was also the sister of the late Audrey Dwyer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gerry's funeral at 10 a.m. Monday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2 p.m.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the Funeral Mass from 9 to 10 a.m.
