Waltham – Dr. Gloria L. Lombard, of Waltham, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in her home. She was 83.
Gloria was born in Waltham on April 26, 1928, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Carroll) Lombard, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a teacher with the Wayland Public Schools before becoming principal of Fox Hill Elementary School in Burlington. She retired twenty years ago.
A graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham she received her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Gloria earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in education from Boston College. She was a member of the Massachusetts and National Educators Association. Gloria was also a Eucharistic minister at Saint Jude Church and a member of the Doric Dames.
She leaves her brother, Charles C. Lombard of Waltham; her nephews, Matthew Lombard of West Yarmouth and Charles ‘Chuck’ Lombard and his wife, Laurie, of Waltham; her niece, Karen Mangan and her husband, James, of Waltham; and her grandnieces and grandnephews, Jessica, Chuck, Michael, and Katelyn.
Family and friends will honor and remember Gloria’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, June 17th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
