Waltham – Mr. Guido DiVecchia, of Waltham, died Thursday, July 28, 2016 in his home. He was 88.
Guido was born on January 24, 1928 in Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, Pescara Province, Italy, a son of the late Carmine and Anna Maria (DiPietroantonio) DiVecchia. After moving to the United States his family settled in Watertown.
Upon graduating from Watertown High School Guido joined the United States Air Force where he was assigned to a base in Tripoli, Libya. While on a 1953 trip to Italy visiting with family he met the love of his life, Maria Silvestri, and a year later, on July 25, 1954, the pair were married in Pacentro, L'Aquila Province.
Following their marriage the couple made their home in Watertown before moving to Waltham in 1973. Guido attended Northeastern University in Boston and worked for B.F. Goodrich in Watertown.
In 1971 he became an electrician and worked at Sartori Electric Company, the Newton Marriott, the Fernald School in Waltham and Arkwright Insurance. He retired in 1998 as an electrician at Brandeis University in Waltham.
Guido loved dancing and was an avid bocce player. He was a very active member of the Watertown Sons of Italy Piave Fiume Lodge where he served as president, vice-president, orator, treasurer, financial secretary, trustee and convention delegate. He also served as State Grand Lodge deputy at the Sons of Italy, Guido Petrilli Lodge, in Roslindale. He was also a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No.156 in Waltham as well as the Ballroom Dancing Club of Waltham.
In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Maria, he leaves his children, Edward DiVecchia of Waltham, Ann Marie Piantedosi and her husband, John, of Nashua New Hampshire and Tina Mannarino and her husband, Stephen, of Wayland; his grandchildren, Nicholas Piantedosi, Melissa Piantedosi, Olivia Mannarino and Sophie Mannarino; his sisters, Alba Funari of North Andover and Antonetta Paoletti of Needham and many nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late Angelo DiVecchia, Guerino "Jerry" DiVecchia and Paolina DiPietroantonio.
Family and friends will honor and remember Guido's life gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, August 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
