Waltham - Mr. Gustave J. Chiasson, of Waltham, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Maristhill Nursing Home. He was 90.
Gustave was born on April 3, 1921 in Margaree Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada, a son of the late Arsene and Zelie (Aucoin) Chiasson. He immigrated to the United States in 1961 settling in Waltham.
“Gus” as he was lovingly referred, worked as an electrician for G.T.E., now Sylvania Corp., in Waltham for over 15 years, retiring in 1988. Previously, he worked for many years for Electro Contracting in Waltham.
He maintained a strong affection and loyalty to his French-Canadian heritage and will be remembered as a gentle, good and giving person. He maintained a summer home in his native Margaree Harbour, to which he would return annually. He was also a longtime member and two-time past president of the French-American Victory Club in Waltham. He was happiest when on the dance floor with his bride. They were talented partners and loved to dance. They would often teach others at the dances at the former St. Joseph Church and at the French-American Victory Club.
He was predeceased by his second wife of 58 years, Marie T. (Poirier) Chiasson, and by his first wife, Josephine (Chiasson) Chiasson, and his brothers, Yvon, Gerard, Albert, and Bertrand Chiasson
Gus leaves his children, Bernie Chiasson and his wife, Lucille, of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Lorraine M. Rankin of Waltham, Gerry Chiasson and his wife, Sheila, of Framingham and Ann C. Hebert and her husband, Greg, of Waltham; his sister, Helene LeBlanc of Margaree Harbour, Nova Scotia; also survived by 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Gus’ life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
