North Chelmsford – Mr. Harold W. Mearls, of North Chelmsford, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his home at the Atrium at Drum Hill. He was 97.
Harold was born in Boston on April 7, 1913, a son of the late John J. and Nellie E. (Lynch) Mearls. He was raised in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School. After that Harold attended Northeastern University in Boston. He lived in Waltham for many years and had worked for the United States Postal Service for more than thirty years, first in South Boston then at the Back Bay Annex before retiring from the Waltham office. Harold also worked a second job at night for many years at the Keefe Brothers gas station on High Street in Waltham. He had also been a longtime resident of South Yarmouth before moving to Chelmsford.
The husband of the late Grace M. (Thompson) Mearls and Mary A. (Shea) (Ruggles) Mearls, Harold leaves his children, Robert P. Mearls and his wife, Marjorie, of Needham, Stephen M. Mearls and his wife, Jean, of Newtonville and Ellen Medeiros and her husband, James, of Chelmsford; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Harold W. Mearls, Jr. and brother of the late John, Walter and Mary Mearls, Helene Morrissey and Catherine Rogan.
Family and friends will honor and remember Harold’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
