Waltham – Mr. Harry E. Sneider Sr., of Waltham, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at his home. He was 92.
Harry was born in Malden on August 5, 1918 and was raised there, a son of the late Harold and Mae (McDermott) Sneider. He had been a Waltham resident for more than 59 years. During World War II he served with the United States Army.
He worked for over 58 years as store manager at Nickerson & Hills Inc. on Main Street and was still working at the time of his death. It gave him a sense of belonging and kept his mind and body active. He met ‘the girl next door’ and years later married Patricia A. McGrady on August 19, 1974 in First Parish Church in Waltham. They later had their vows renewed and blessed in the Catholic church.
A proud Mason he was an active member and past Grand Master of Isaac Parker Lodge, A.F. & A.M. Lodge, affiliated with both the Norumbega & Brookline lodges, now merged, and known as The Waltham Triad Lodge.
He enjoyed tending to his house, garden and yard.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Patricia A. (McGrady) Sneider; his sons, Harry E. Sneider, Jr. and his wife, Debra, of Saxonville, Kenneth L. Sneider and his wife, Janet, of Billerica and Thomas A. Sneider and his wife, Linda, of Medford; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will honor and remember Harry’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday afternoon when his funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne will be private.
