Mrs. Hectorine L. 'Heckie' (Leger) Goguen, of Medford, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Park Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington. She was 90. Heckie was born in Shediac, New Brunswick on May 26, 1919, a daughter of the late Arthur and Emma Leger, and had lived in Waltham, Cambridge and Somerville before moving to Medford in 1981. Her husband of 67 years, Albert J. Goguen, died October 4, 2008. She and Al had been longtime members of the French-American Victory Club in Waltham. Heckie will long be remembered as a terrific homemaker who was devoted to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was also deeply spiritual and held a special devotion to Saint Anthony to whom she prayed daily. Heckie also loved Boston sports, especially following the Red Sox and Bruins. For her 90th birthday celebration last May she and her family attended 'Red Sox Night' at the Boston Pops and she enjoyed a special audience with conductor Keith Lockhart after the performance. Attending a game at Fenway Park the following day capped off the weekend. She traveled extensively all over the world that included trips to France, New Orleans, Hawaii, California and her favorite of them all, Florida. Heckie leaves her daughters, Barbara A. Corkery and her husband, Francis, of Hull and Janet L. Goguen and her husband, Brian Holmes, of Medford; her grandchildren, Christopher Miller, Michele Corkery, Gregory Miller, Robert Carney, Deborah Carney, and Mackenzie and Jacqueline Holmes; her great-grandchildren, Isabel Santos and Matthew Carney; her son-in-law, Robert Carney of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Elaine Miller and Diane Carney, mother-in-law of the late Robert Miller and sister of the late Emery Leger, Antoine Leger, Leona Gamache, Lauretta Draper, Robert Leger, Gerard Leger and Camille Leger. Family and friends will honor and remember Heckie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Committal services will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
