Waltham - Mrs. Helen R. (Harrington) Burns, of Waltham, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 in Maristhill Nursing Home, Waltham. She was 101.
Helen was born in Lowell on March 12, 1911, a daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Carney) Harrington, and had been a Waltham resident since 1950. Until her retirement she worked as a stenciler for the Sylvania Company. While at the company in the 1960's she stenciled a clock that went to the moon on one of the Apollo missions which now resides at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Helen was the wife of the late Edward A. Burns; mother of the late Edward R. Burns and the sister of the late Frank Harrington and John Harrington.
She is survived by her grandson, Bradford R. Burns and his wife, Josephine, of Braintree; her daughter-in-law, Mary Burns of Brighton; her great-granddaughter, Sabrina Burns; her sister, Lillian A. Carruthers of Framingham and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Helen's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, May 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
