Waltham- Miss Helen T. Flynn, of Waltham, died Friday, February 1, 2008 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 93. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, a daughter of the late John and Lillian (Feeney) Flynn, Helen worked for forty-seven years for the Waltham Public School system, retiring in 1982. She was assistant principal at the Whittemore Elementary School and later became principal at the Lawrence, Thomas Hill, Bright and Plympton elementary schools. She spent the last seventeen years of her career at the Plympton School. After her retirement, Helen volunteered at several public schools in Waltham. Helen was a longtime active parishioner at Saint Mary's Church in Waltham where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was a former member of the Massachusetts Teacher's Association and was a graduate of Regis College, Class of 1934, and Boston College, Class of 1956. Helen was also a longtime volunteer at Maristhill Nursing Home and was a member of the Waltham High School Scholarship Committee. Helen leaves her cousins, John J. Smith of Rochester, New York, Maryann Houston of Havelock, North Carolina, Phyllis A. Smith of Humarock, Henry Thomas of Albany New York and Josephine Smith of Newburyport; her dear friends, Elaine Cooney and Gerri Cox, both of Waltham and several other cousins. She was the cousin of the late Charles H. Smith, Jr., Patricia Thomas, Paul M. Smith, Rosemary Smith, Bud Houston and she was a dear friend of the late Mary Donahue. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Helen T.
