Helen L. Flynn

Onset – Mrs. Helen L. (Griffin) Flynn, of Onset, formerly of Waltham, died Monday, December 19, 2011 in Tobey Hospital, Wareham. She was 97.

Helen was born in Waltham on October 7, 1914, a daughter of the late Henry and Catharine (Sullivan) Griffin. She was a graduate of Saint Charles High School and had been a Waltham resident until moving to Onset in 1976.

She worked as a bookkeeper for the former Beacon Valve Company in Waltham and before that had worked at the Raytheon Company and for The Hood Company. Helen was a former member of St. Jude's Parish in Waltham and its Couple's Club.

Her husband, Edward R. Flynn, died in October, 1986.

She leaves her children, Dr. Edward J. Flynn and his wife, Irene, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Elaine L. Hammond of Onset, John H. "Jack" Flynn and his wife, Karen, of Falmouth and Robert J. Flynn and his wife, Denise, of Stow; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was also the mother-in-law of the late Barry Hammond and a sister of the late Alice Thibeault, Catharine Griffin, Mary Griffin, Margaret Gavin and Marion Chrystenycwz.

Family and friends will honor and remember Helen's life by gathering to visit in The Blessed Sacrament Chapel of St. Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham on Thursday, December 22nd, from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
