Helen Rogers

Needham – Mrs. M. Helen (Hennessy) Rogers, of Needham, formerly of Waltham and Cambridge, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Boston. She was 84.

Helen was born in Waltham on February 24, 1929, one of eight children born to the late William and Helen Mary (Doiront) Hennessy. She lived for a time in Auburndale before the family moved to Cambridge. She was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School.

On April 20, 1950 she married Ernest J. Rogers and twelve years later the couple moved to Waltham where they raised their family. They recently moved to Needham. Helen had been a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Church where was a member of the choir and she also sang with the Sweet Adelines singing group.

In addition to her husband of sixty-three years, Ernest, she leaves her children, Elaine Bergeron of Waltham, Ernest D. Rogers of Lexington, Mark D. Rogers and his wife, Debra DellaCamera, of Lincoln, Janis M. Berry and her fiancé, Richard Vaccarello, of Plymouth, Tracy Rogers of Burlington and The Rev. Timothy J. Rogers of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; her grandchildren, Melanie Sullivan, Christopher Rogers, Shoshanna Bergeron, Scott Rogers, Jonathan Berry and Sophia DellaCamera Rogers; her great-grandchildren, Kirsten Cormier, Rebecca and Haley Sullivan; her sister and brothers, Patricia O'Brien of Melrose, William Hennessy of North Dartmouth, Robert Hennessy of West Palm Beach, Florida, Jack Hennessy of Burlington, Richard Hennessy of California and Ted Hennessy of Belmont and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was also a sister of the late Paul Hennessy.

Family and friends will honor and remember Helen's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, September 6th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Church of the Good Shepherd, 9 Russell Avenue [cor. of Mount Auburn Street] Watertown where her Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Committal services will follow in Newton Cemetery Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
