Waltham – Mrs. Helen F. (McLaughlin) Sullivan died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, New Hampshire. She was 84.
Helen was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, on June 10, 1929, a daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Lynch) Sullivan. She loved horses and as a child her father would take her to the races where she was able to go behind the fences and help care for them.
She graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Hooksett and on March 24, 1952 she married the love of her life, Robert E. Sullivan. Shortly thereafter Helen and Bob moved to Waltham where they raised their family. They loved their neighborhood, and Helen spent many happy hours sharing coffee with all of her friends. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, cross-word puzzles and sports of all kinds, having coached for many seasons in a girls basketball league. She loved the beach and enjoyed reminiscing about her early years with family and friends.
Besides her husband, Robert, she leaves her children, Michael P. Sullivan and his wife, Patricia, of Scarborough, Maine, Maureen P. Garcia and her husband, Kevin, of Salem, New Hampshire and Mark P. Sullivan of Woburn; her grandchildren, Courtney, Jamie, Lauren, Sean and Kayla Sullivan and Lindsey Garcia; her great-granddaughter Samantha Jacek and her sister-in-law Nellie J. McLaughlin and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Edward J. McLaughlin and mother-in-law of the late Debra A. Sullivan.
Family and friends will honor and remember Helen's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, September 29th from 3 to 6 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bedford , New Hampshire.
