Helen Josephine Zagwyn

November 29, 1935 — May 22, 2011

Mrs. Helen J. (Hebert) Zagwyn, of Plymouth, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, May 22, 2011. She was 75.

Helen was born in Waltham, a daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Rigoli) Hebert. She attended Waltham Public Schools and St. Mary’s High School. She lived many years in Gardiner, Maine before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1998. She moved back to New England in 2008.

She worked as a self-employed day care provider and nanny for many years. Gifted with a talent and passion for ceramics she once operated her own ceramics business.

Helen was active as a Lioness in the Gardiner, Maine Lions Club and with the Boys and Girl Scouts. Most happy when her family was gathered around her she is remembered as a talented cook and made every effort to decorate and make the holiday’s extra special for everyone. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the outdoors either gardening or camping. Helen also enjoyed her excursions to Foxwoods or playing board games with family and friends.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Ann Zagwyn and her sister, Jeannette Sainsbury.

She leaves her children, Diane M. Zagwyn-Coston and her husband, James, of Chelsea, Maine, Theodore W. Zagwyn Jr., and his wife, Rebecca, of Farmingdale, Maine and Gregory M. Zagwyn and his wife, Melanie, of Plymouth; her siblings, Mary Alice McMahon of Waltham and Edward Hebert and his wife, Lorna, of Wayland. Also survived by 7 grandchildren; 4 great-granchildren; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Helen’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, May 25th, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.

Memorials in her name may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
