Waltham – Mr. Henry Orta, of Waltham, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 92.
Henry was born in Havana, Cuba on July 15, 1929, one of eleven children to the late Enrique and Emelia (Rodriguez) Orta. He emigrated from Cuba in 1966, living for a time in Malden and in Cambridge before moving to Waltham in 1981. Before his retirement he had worked for years as the maintenance supervisor at the Newton Marriott Hotel.
He leaves behind his son, Waltham Police Det. Jorge E. Orta and his wife, Carla; his granddaughter, Selena Orta; his former wife Lucia Macias Orta and her children Petain Lorr and Tanyi Loor, all of Marlborough. Brother of Margo Sanchez of Mango, Florida, Beatriz Rosario (Elliot) of Lutz, Florida, Jose Pablo Orta of Lutz, Florida, Onelia Millares (Genaro) of Lutz, Florida, Rita Dinero (David, Sr.) of Lutz, Florida, Manuel Orta of Havana, Cuba and the late Orlando Orta, Eduardo Orta (Ana), Roberto Orta and Leonardo Orta.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews including his niece Marta Roberts of Mountain Home, Idaho and her children Michele Kelly Curtis of Mountain Home, Idaho and the late James Hennessy; his late niece Sully Reume and her late son Teddy Reume; his nephew Charles Sanchez (Sandra) of Brandon, Florida and their daughter Stephanie Sanchez of St. Petersburg, Florida; his nephew Louis Sanchez (Sara) of Sarasota, Florida and their children Alina Sanchez and Henry Sanchez; his nephew Armando Orta of Hialeah Gardens, Florida; his nephew Eddy Orta of Miami, Florida; his nephew Daniel Orta (Erin) of Tampa Florida; his niece Abigal Orta of Lutz, Florida; his nephew Michael Dinero (Joell Kripas Dinero) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and his nephew David Dinero (Abigail) of Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Family and friends will honor and remember Henry's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, January 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. concluding with his funeral service at 7 p.m. Burial will be private.
