Waltham – Mr. Henry T. Ward, Jr., of Waltham, died Friday, April 27, 2018 at his home. He was 78.
Henry was born in Clinton on September 24, 1939, a son of the late Henry T. and Kathleen (McMahon) Ward, and was raised in Wellesley. After graduating from Wellesley High School he served with the United States Air Force.
He worked most of his life as a sales representative for Zeus Electronics and for its successor firm, Arrow Electronics. After that he went to work for Star Market in Waltham until his retirement.
Henry would tell you that the best part of his life began fifty years to the day he died when he married Newton native Janice R. Blakeney in Saint Jean's Church in Newton. The pair lived in Watertown for a time before moving to Waltham in 1972 where they became lifelong residents.
In retirement he enjoyed life's simplest joys . . . keeping his beautiful gardens, puttering around the house, and most especially being around his grandchildren. Henry, like most Bostonians, was a loyal fan of all the pro sports teams.
In addition to his wife of fifty years, Janice, he leaves his children, Henry T. Ward, III (Alejandra Hernandez) of Tempe, Arizona, Amy E. Robinson (Miles) of Bedford and Julie A. Dereshinsky (James) of Sudbury; his grandchildren, Sebastian Ward, Jadyn and Max Robinson and Simon and Maeve Dereshinsky; his sisters and brothers, Carole McNamara of Chestnut Hill, Paul Ward of Plymouth, Richard Ward of Boca Raton, Florida, and Kathy Prescott of Easton and many nieces and nephews.
Henry was also the father of the late Jeffrey A. Ward.
Family and friends will honor and remember Henry's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, April 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445.
