Waltham - Mrs. Hilda M. (Richard) Melanson, of Waltham, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Meadow Green Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waltham. She was 96.
Hilda was born in Worcester on June 19, 1913, a daughter of the late Oliver and Frances (Boucher) Richard. She had lived in Canada until the age of 18 after which she returned to the United States and settled in Waltham. In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo, cooking and sewing.
She leaves her children, Ronald J. Melanson and his wife, Barbara, of Quincy, Theresa M. Melanson of Waltham and Jeannette M. Freedman and her husband, Howard, of Russell; her sister, Leona Melanson of New Brunswick; her grandchildren, Mark and Scott Glovaski. Melissa Melanson, Michael and Alan Freedman; her great-grandson, Christian DeStefano and many nieces and nephews.
She was the wife of the late Maximin J. Melanson and sister of the late Joseph, Alyre, Frederick and Ida Richard,
Family and friends will honor and remember Hilda’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
