Huatang Chen, of Belmont, died Thursday, April 11, 2019 in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 83.
Born October 20, 1935 in Ningbo, China, he was a son of the late Shengjiang Chen and Juqing Jiang. He and his wife, Xiuying Tao, immigrated to the United States in 1998.
In addition to his wife, Xiuying, he leaves his sons, Xiaohua Chen and Xiaodong Tao, and his grandchildren, Jesse Chen, Joseph Chen, and Yizhu Tao. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, overcoming poverty, and optimism. Thanks to Huatang, future generations will be able to avoid the hardships of his own upbringing and carry on his values.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Huatang's life on Saturday, April 13th at 2:00 pm in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rt. 20) Waltham. Cremation will be private at Newton Cemetery & Crematory.
