Mr. Hubert P. 'Hubie' LeBlanc Jr., of West Newton, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 in Wingate at Needham. He was 73. Hubert was born in Boston on March 23, 1936, a son of the late Hubert P. and Mary (Poirier) LeBlanc. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and Brandeis University, Class of 1958 and served in the National Guard. He was a bar manager at the Union Club on Park Street in Boston for many years. Hubert also was the basketball coach at Brandeis University from 1966 to1974. He coached baseball for a couple of years as well. He later owned and operated the Town House Pub in Maynard. In his later years he sold real estate and bartended at Finnerty's Restaurant in Wayland. Hubert was active in the Waltham Boys Club. An avid softball player he earned a reputation as the 'fast-pitch king' in area softball leagues. Hubert loved Brandeis University and his time spent there both as a student and later as a coach. He was inducted into its Hall of Fame for coaching and contributing in 2008. He and his son, Greg, were the first father and son to both 'letter' in baseball at Brandeis. He leaves his sons, Gregory M. LeBlanc and his wife, Lauri, of Leominster, Jonathan W. and Geoffrey J. LeBlanc, both of Waltham and Christopher F. LeBlanc & his wife, Sharon, of Framingham; his sisters, Marie Turner of Billerica and Estelle Carney of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Peyton and Patrick LeBlanc and many nieces and nephews. His was predeceased by his sister, Barbara 'Vee' Kadish. Family and friends will honor and remember Hubert's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Committal services will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham.
