Ida S. Delaire

Waltham – Mrs. Ida S. (Chiasson) Delaire, of Waltham, died Friday, October 26, 2012 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Northborough. She was 90.

Ida was born on April 3, 1922 in Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, one of ten children born to the late Joseph and Donathilde 'Tilly' (Arsenault) Chiasson. She moved to Waltham when she was in her early 20's and had been a resident since.

She and her family had been longtime members of Saint Joseph's Church in Waltham and after its closing joined Saint Jude Parish. Ida was also a member of the French-American Victory Club in Waltham. Affectionately known as 'Memere' to her grandchildren and others, she enjoyed trips 'home' to Cape Breton to visit with family and friends. Ida's family frequently joined her and she took great pride and enjoyment in introducing the younger generation to their ancestral home and relatives.

The wife of the late Raymond J. Delaire, she leaves her children, Deborah Proctor and her husband, George, of Hudson and Robert Delaire and his wife, Jacqueline, of Gardner; her son-in-law, James Regan of Waltham; her grandchildren, Michelle Allen and Katie Anderson, Charles and Jeffrey Proctor and Stephen and Kevin Delaire; her great-grandchildren, Devon and Brooke Allen, Drew and Ava Anderson and Aubrey and Connor Proctor and many nieces and nephews.

Ida was also the mother of the late Raylene Regan and David Delaire and a sister of the late Phillip, William, David and John Chiasson, Mary Rose Bellevue, Elizabeth Aucoin, Rebecca, Delia and Lucy LeBlanc.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ida's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, November 1st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
