Waltham – Mrs. Ida M. (Casella) Welch, of Waltham, died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her home. She was 60.
Ida was born in Waltham on October 31, 1949, a daughter of the late Luigi and Carmella Casella and had been a lifelong resident. She was a 1968 graduate of Waltham High School.
Ida had worked for the past thirty-three years for the Chateau Restaurant, most recently as general manager of the Norwood restaurant since its opening eleven years ago. She had also worked for a number of years for the late Dr. Edward J. Lyons, Jr. at his Waltham dental practice. At one time Ida operated her own business, Fresh Petals, from her home.
She was a longtime volunteer for ‘Meals on Wheels’ in Waltham and a parishioner of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham. Her greatest joy however was found spending time with her family and close friends and was overjoyed in welcoming the newest member of the family, her granddaughter, Anna Rose, nine months ago.
Ida leaves her husband; William F. Welch; her children and their spouses, James W. Welch and his wife, Elizabeth, of Wilmington and Alison Tosches and her husband, Mark, of Milford; her granddaughter, Anna R. Tosches; her brothers and sister, Carmello ‘Cam’, Frank and Joseph Casella all of Waltham, Louis Casella of Townsend and Rose Palumbo of Fayetteville, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
She was also a sister of the late Salvatore and Jimmy Casella, Angie McClellan and Mary Lucas.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ida’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
