Irene C. Cardone

Westford – Mrs. Irene C. (Gariepy) Cardone, of Westford and formerly of Waltham, died Thursday April 3, 2014 in Lahey Clinic, Burlington. She was 91.

Irene was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on October 7, 1922, a daughter of the late Philius and Rose Anna (Bricault) Gariepy. She lived in Woonsocket until her marriage to Nicholas Cardone on January 31, 1948. The pair made their home in Waltham for nearly forty years before moving to Westford in 1987. Until her retirement she had worked as an underwriter for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Waltham.

She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-six years, Nicholas Cardone; her sons, Gary A. Cardone of Groton and Ronald T. Cardone and his wife, Diane, of Westford; her grandchildren, Michelle L., Nicholas J., Craig A. and Zachary C. Cardone and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Doris Jansen, Ernest Gariepy, Robert Gariepy and Patrick Gariepy and mother-in-law of the late Nancy Cardone.

Family and friends will honor and remember Irene's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, April 7th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
