Waltham – Mrs. Irene T. (Feeney) Jordan, of Waltham, died at home on Sunday, March 1, 2020. She was 78.
Irene was born in Galway, Ireland on December 20, 1941, one of six children born to the late Festus and Nora (Faherty) Feeney. Raised in Ireland, she came to the United States when she was seventeen and settled in Brookline with her uncle Tom and aunt Dehlia Faherty.
On September 24, 1967 she married Cambridge native James Jordan at Our Lady of the Presentation Church in Oak Square in Brighton. The two made Waltham their lifelong home a year later.
Irene was naturally drawn to the sea; being the daughter of a seasoned fisherman, a love for being near the ocean was in her blood. She enjoyed swimming, especially at Popponesset Beach on the Cape. Above all, she cherished spending time with her five grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of 53 years, Jim, she leaves their daughters, Kathleen A. Sarkissian (John) of Burlington and Jennifer F. Mazzocchi (Phillip) of Sudbury; her grandchildren, Claudia, Marissa, and Lia Mazzocchi and Samuel and James Sarkissian; her siblings, Nora Stenson of Brighton and Michael Feeney of Galway, Ireland and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is reunited with her sister and brothers, the late Margaret Murphy, Charles Feeney and Patrick Feeney.
Family and friends will honor and remember Irene's life by gathering on Saturday, March 7th at Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street (Route 20), Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.
