Waltham – Miss Irene L. Kallow of Waltham died Friday, April 1, 2011 in the Wingate at Belvidere Nursing Center in Lowell following a lengthy illness. She was 90. Irene was born in Waltham on October 12, 1920, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ragnhild (Hagen) Kallow.
Irene was raised and schooled in Waltham. She had worked in the Middlesex County Hospital for 53 years until she retired in 1995. Irene belonged to The Sons of Norway and enjoyed helping out at the clothing exchange at the First Parish Church in Waltham where she also sang in the choir. She also enjoyed spending time with her wonderful friends who went out to lunch on a monthly basis.
She was the sister of the late Pauline Kallow and is survived by her cousins, Pamela Kenney and her longtime companion, Bob McMinn, of Lowell, Paul Kenney of Lowell, Betsy and Bill Jackson of Little Compton, RI, Paula and Ted Rogers of Billerica, Pauline and Frank DeChiara of Billerica, Patti and Steven O’Connor of Maryland, and many other cousins in the United States and Norway.
Family and friends will honor and remember Irene’s life by gathering at 10 am on Tuesday, April 5th, in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham where her Funeral Service will be held at 11 am. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
