Ms. Irene T. Van Duyn, of Chatham, died Monday, January 27, 2025, in Broad Reach of Chatham Assisted Living Facility. She was 90.
Irene was born July 19, 1934, in Newton a daughter of the late Leo and Helen (Verbinski) Van Duyn. She graduated from Andrew Jackson School in Brighton and Girls Latin High School in Brighton. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College and her master’s degree in Eastern Studied from Harvard University. She later earned her master’s in business administration from Suffolk University.
From 1962 – 1965 Irene lived and worked in Afghanistan while working for U.S.A.I.D. Upon returning to the States, she worked in finance at the Bank of Boston on Franklin Street and later as a financial analyst for Millipore Corporation, retiring in 2000.
Irene lived many years in both Newton and Waltham before making Chatham her full-time residence in 2000 upon retirement. She was active in Habitat for Humanity and as a volunteer in the Chatham Public Schools. A devout Catholic she was a member of Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham. Irene enjoyed swimming and horseback riding.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 26th in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 12:10 p.m. All are welcome. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
