Iris Kathleen (Mackey) Hynes

Waltham – Mrs. Iris Kathleen "Kathy" (Mackey) Hynes, of Waltham, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in her home. She was 90.

Kathy was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, on August 6, 1925, a daughter of the late William and Sarah (MacDonald) Mackey. She was raised and educated in Springhill where she lived before moving to Waltham in 1951.

Until her retirement in 1987 she worked for thirty-five years for the Ark-Les Corporation in Waltham. Before that she worked for a time at Dunleavy's in Watertown.

In 1959 she met Waltham native Norman F. Hynes and a year later they were married. The couple enjoyed forty-five years together before Norman's death in 2005. They were longtime residents of Bacon Street and parishioners at Saint Mary's Church. Kathy had a talent for singing, reading, and knitting.

The sister of the late Dennis Mackey, James Mackey, Rev. Jeremiah Mackey, Elizabeth Pottle, Veronica Pettigrew, Margaret Porter, and Cecilia Calder she leaves many nieces and nephews and their families and her dear friend, Evelyn D'Agostino of Waltham.

Family and friends will honor and remember Kathy's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 17th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
