Waltham – Mr. J. Ernest ‘Ernie’ Aucoin, of Waltham, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 84.
Ernie was born in Waltham on April 1, 1926, a son of the late Simon L. and Aimee (Muise) Aucoin and had been a lifelong resident. During World War II he served with the United States Army. Prior to joining the military he worked at the Puritan Dress factory and at Grover Cronin’s department store in Waltham. Ernie worked for thirty-nine years at Massachusetts Broken Stone Company in Weston retiring in 1989.
For nineteen years Ernie worked with his wife, Eveline, at the Staples Office Supply Store on Lexington Street in Waltham. The store was dedicated to Ernie and Eveline on September 26, 2003 in recognition of their long and loyal service and dedication. This past summer Ernie and Eveline celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. He had been a lifelong member of Saint Joseph’s Church in Waltham where he ran the bingo event for the parish for as long as the event was held.
He loved country music, playing his guitar, singing, and, at one time, long distance running. Ernie had his own Country and Western band for many years and entertained in local Country and Western nightclubs. He was a former member of the Powder Horn Golf Course in Lexington and the French-American Victory Club in Waltham.
Ernie leaves his wife, Eveline M. (Daigle) Aucoin; his children, Paul J. Aucoin and his wife, Vedna, of Waltham and Edmond F. Aucoin and his wife, Stella, of Marlborough; his
granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn Aucoin of Manchester, New Hampshire; his brother, Eugene G. Aucoin Keene, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Patricia Ann Aucoin; grandfather of the late Christopher Michael Aucoin and a brother of the late Albert J. Aucoin and Eileen Dennett.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ernie’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 1st, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Corpus Christi Church, 45 Ash Street, Auburndale where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Committal services will follow in Newton Cemetery Chapel.
