Waltham – Mr. James E. Burgoyne, of Waltham and Green Harbor, was born into Eternal Life on September 1st 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.
He was born in Waltham on August 9, 1931, a son of the late Joseph Leo and Jane E. (Hedrington) Burgoyne, and had been a lifelong resident. Jim was a peaceful, loving, gentle man who was the rock of his family. He had a smile that brought comfort to all whose lives he touched. During the Korean War he served with the United States Coast Guard aboard the cutter Eastwind which took him across the Arctic Circle. He was a Life Member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham and had also been a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 14091 in Waltham and the Gov. David I. Walsh Assembly, 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
Jim leaves his wife, Ann M. ‘Nan’ (Murphy) Burgoyne; his children, James E. Burgoyne, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Tewksbury, George T. Burgoyne and his wife, Vicki, of Plymouth, Helen M. Duffy and her husband, Michael, of Green Harbor, Leo J. Burgoyne and his wife, Lisa, of Natick and Thomas M. Burgoyne and his wife, Jean, of Sandwich; his 12 wonderful grandchildren whom he loved very much; his sisters and brother, Mary Burgoyne, Joseph Burgoyne, both of Waltham, Jean Newcomb of Medfield, Georgine Brouliette of Townsend, Geraldine Smith of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late Pauline Sanford.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, September 7th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
