James C. Corcoran Jr., of South Boston, formerly of West Springfield, died Friday, June 13, 2008 in Kindred Hospital in Waltham after a long struggle with ALS -Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was 81. Born in West Springfield, a son of the late James C. and Mary G. (McCann) Corcoran, Sr., Mr. Corcoran was a self employed attorney in Boston and West Springfield for many years. He was also a former State Representative in Hampden County from 1960 – 1964. Mr. Corcoran was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School, St. Michael's College in Burlington, Vermont, Class of 1949 and Boston College School of Law, Class of 1953. He was the husband of the late Sarah M. (Monahan) Corcoran. He leaves five children, Maura A. Corcoran of West Roxbury, Kathleen A. Corcoran of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, James C. Corcoran III and his wife, Monica, of Framingham, Sean J. Corcoran and his wife, Tina, of Waltham and Timothy J. Corcoran and his wife, Denise, of Milford; a brother, John B. Corcoran of Agawam; three sisters, Anna Mae Kelleher and Regina Newman, both of W. Springfield and Marilyn MacKusick of Chatham; seven grandchildren, Timothy, James IV, Patrick, Sean, Matthew, Brendan Corcoran and Mandy Cormier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Massachusetts State Veterans Cemetery in Agawam.
