Waltham – Mr. James J. Falzone, of Waltham, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at his daughter's home in Chatham. He was 72.
Jim was born in Waltham on September 29, 1939, a son of the late Peter and Angelina (Terrasi) Falzone, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and was a member of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. He served with the United States Army during the early part of the Vietnam War.
Until his retirement Jim was a self-employed insurance agent and had been a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish. On June 13, 1964 Jim married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Ohnemus, of Waltham.
He loved sports of all kinds, especially football, and had been a coach for the Waltham Pop Warner Devil Dogs since he was 18 years old. He also ran each day and could often be seen around the city during his late afternoon run, or as an early bird, getting his morning coffee. Jimmy was proud to have run in six Boston Marathons.
In addition to his beloved wife of 48 years, Eleanor J. (Ohnemus) Falzone, he leave his children, Gail Butcher and her husband, Scot, of Natick, James Falzone and his wife, Kerri, of Waltham, Michael Falzone and his wife, Jennifer, of Bedford and Deborah Ragusa and her husband, Doug, of Canton; his grandchildren, Ali and Emily Butcher, Gina, James, Angela, Derek, Nicholas, Michael and Katie Falzone and Jake, Alec and Lucas Ragusa; his brother, Peter Falzone of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was also a brother of the late Catherine Gangi.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, July 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
