Mr. James M. 'Slim' Gregoricus, of Waltham, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at Epoch of Weston. He was 87.
Slim was born in Rollingsford, New Hampshire on March 8, 1922, a son of the late Michael and Vasiliki (Kouzounas) Gregoricus and had been a lifelong resident of Waltham. He was a graduate of Waltham High School where he played football for legendary coach Jack Leary.
Until his retirement he worked as a sales representative for Colonial Bearings in Burlington and before that worked for many years as a tool and dye maker for the New England Mica Corporation of Waltham. Slim had been a longtime associate member of the Sons of Italy and VFW Post No. 2152, both of Waltham.
The husband of the late Martha (Martinos) Gregoricus, he leaves his children, Lynne Keating and her husband, Joseph, and Michael J. Gregoricus and his wife, Bernadette, all of Waltham; his grandchildren, Jimmy Keating, Michael Keating and Zachary Gregoricus; his brother, George 'Woody' Grigorakos of Belmont; many nieces and nephews and the nurses, staff and residents of Epoch of Weston with whom he made his home for the past nine years.
Slim was also the grandfather of the late Ryan Gregoricus and brother of the late Stella Pando, Charlie Grigorakos, John, Chris and Peter Gregoricus.
Family and friends will honor and remember Slim's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Route 20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to the Greek Orthodox Church (Taxiarchae), 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown, where his Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
