Jim also helped to raise thousands of dollars for the Jimmy Fund by coordinating softball tournaments among the city's various departments.

Jim was the husband of the late Margaret G. (Greenough) Hession; father of the late Christine M. Hession and a brother of the late Barbara Sevigny, John C. Hession, and Joseph F. Hession, Jr. who was killed in action during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army.
