Marshfield - Mr. James R. McNamara, III, of Marshfield, formerly of Waltham, died Friday, July 1, 2016 in South Shore Hospital after battling cancer. He was 65.
Jim was born on March 11, 1951, a son of Mary E. (Eaton) (McNamara) Delaney of Peabody and the late James R. McNamara, Jr. He was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham and received his baccalaureate degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1973.
A self procalaimed "itinerant equine speculator", he was also an avid writer and music enthusiast who traveled with Barrence Whitfield and the Savages around the United States, up until recently.
Jim had friends and compatriots too numerous to mention, and he had special people in such places as Cleveland, Kansas City, New Orleans, Saratoga and his beloved Brant Rock to name only a few.
Besides his mother, Mary, he is survived by his siblings, Michael F. McNamara and his wife, Ida, of Burlington, Vermont, Maureen A. Delaney and her husband, Shaun McCallum, of Waltham, and Joseph E. Delaney and his wife, Jennifer, of Reading. He is also survived by his longtime friend and ally, Joanne Laswell and by many nieces, nephews, and one grand-niece.
He was the step-son of the late Edward F. Delaney.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, July 6th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
