Rockledge, Fla. – Mr. James R. Murphy, Jr., of Rockledge, Florida and Fairhaven, formerly of Waltham, entered into rest on April 5, 2016. He was 82.
Jim was born in Waltham on July 21, 1933, a son of the late James "Ray" and Irene Murphy and had lived in Waltham for most of his life.
He was a graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Boston College School of Management. He worked for over thirty years at the Raytheon Company before retiring.
He served with the United States Navy and with the Navy Reserve for over 30 years, retiring as a captain. He enjoyed any activity on the water including cruising to the Caribbean, Alaska, Europe and the Panama Canal as well as in the waters off Shaw's Cove, Fairhaven.
Jim leaves his wife, Mary A. Murphy; his children, Mary Jo Murphy (friend, Ernest Silva, Jr.) of Pompano Beach, Florida, James R. Murphy III (fiancée, Tracy Brodd) of Boston and Michael E. Murphy (wife, Linda) of Middleboro; his grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Murphy, and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was the husband of the late Marjorie Noonan Murphy and the brother of the late Elaine Murphy Shaw of Thousand Oaks, California.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, April 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Stephens Cemetery, Framingham.
