James W. Walsh

Waltham – Mr. James W. Walsh, of Waltham, died Monday, September 17, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 74.

Jim was born in Boston on October 24, 1943, a son of the late James and Mary Christine (Dargon) Walsh. He was raised in Newton and had been a lifelong resident before moving to Waltham fifteen years ago. He was a 1962 graduate of Newton High School.

Until his retirement he worked for years for the Newton Public Works Department.

Jim was a Red Sox and Patriots fan and a self-taught historian . . . knowing details about world affairs that would merit an advanced degree. He will long be remembered for his kindness and willingness to lift up in word and in spirit and in deed anyone that needed his help. His other love was all music Motown.

He leaves sister, Linda M. Dillinger of Chelmsford; his nieces and nephew, Karen Kluge (Roy) of Matthews, North Carolina, Susan Spooner-Bishop (Tom) of Belmont, New Hampshire, Kenneth Spooner (Laura) of Pepperell and Dawn Spooner of Chelmsford and his great-nephews, Bryan and Michael Spooner, Christopher Spooner-Bishop and Michael and Christopher Kluge.

Jim was also the brother of the late Judith R. Walsh.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jim's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, September 21st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.
