Waltham – Mrs. Jane V. (McNamara) Bergin, of Waltham, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 in her home. She was 87.

Jane was born in Fitchburg on March 12, 1924, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Walsh) McNamara and was raised in Waltham where she graduated from Saint Mary’s High School. Until the responsibilities of raising her large family became a full time job she had worked for many years at Barker Lumber Company on Bacon Street in Waltham. She had been a thirty-eight year resident of Auburndale before returning to Waltham in 1995.

Her most joyful moments were spent in the company and the comfort of her loving family. Jane's family is most grateful to those who provided care and companionship for her in recent years.

The wife of the late Paul F. Bergin, she leaves her children, Mark P. Bergin and his wife Joanne, of Natick, Denise M. Visco and her husband, Jay, of Waltham, Stephen T. Bergin, and his wife, Jan, of Natick, Mary Jane Barr and her husband, Fred, of Waltham and Polly A. Abbruzzese and her husband, Michael, of Natick; her grandchildren, Caitlin and Michael Bergin, Matthew Visco, Kelia, Desmond and Brigit Bergin, Courtney Barr and Michael, Jared and Nicole Abbruzzese; her brother, Rev. Msgr. Eugene P. McNamara of West Harwich; her sisters, Judith Mumford of Westwood and Sheila Breen of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.

Jane was also a sister of the late Eileen Keefe, Ita Delorey, James McNamara, Jr., John McNamara, Edward McNamara, Alfred McNamara, Thomas McNamara, and Anne Touchstone.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jane’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, March 30th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
