Waltham – Mrs. Jane (Birmingham) Murphy, of Waltham, died Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. She was 69.
Jane was born in Boston on July 13, 1941, a daughter of the late Henry F. and Eleanor F. (Cummings) Birmingham and had been a Waltham resident for the past forty-four years. She was a graduate of Fontbonne Academy in Milton and Regis College in Weston. After that Jane earned a masters degree from Boston College.
Until her retirement three years ago Jane was a math professor at Middlesex Community College in Bedford. Her greatest joy came spending time with her grandchildren and she enjoyed traveling, bike riding, and cross-country skiing.
She is survived by her children, Brian P. Murphy and his wife, Lynda, of Berlin, Kristin M. Romano and her husband, Robert, of Watertown and Linda K. Murphy and her husband, Robert Pfischner, of Beverly; her grandchildren, Genna Murphy, Henry Murphy, Vivi Murphy, Lucy Romano, Beatrice Romano and Freddie Pfischner and her cousin, Janice E. Smith of Weymouth.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jane’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 23rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
