Mrs. Janet (Malcolm) Jackson, fondly known as Netta, of Waltham MA, passed away peacefully on Monday December 9th 2024 at the age of 81 at the home of her daughter Kate and family. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
She was an extraordinary woman. Born in Bellshill Scotland on November 25th, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Alec and Lena Malcolm. A coal miners’ daughter, she was one of nine children. She met her husband Philip Jackson, also a native of Scotland and they immigrated to America in 1967 with two small children in tow. They lived together for 51 years before Phil’s passing in 2018.
They settled in Waltham and had two more children. Soon after arriving in America, they met their lifelong friends Cathy and Jimmy Cowie. Netta was self-employed, and a fantastic mother who was the backbone of the family. She most enjoyed spending time with her four children and seven grandchildren. Watching sporting events and spending time outdoors at their beloved Nipper Maher Park residence and out on the party deck at her Hillcrest St residence. She loved to host the annual Christmas party and July 4th cookout. Vacationing on Cape Cod was another of her joys in life.
Netta became a great patriot of the USA. She was passionate about politics and a voracious reader. However, her most admired skill was her phenomenal singing voice, and family and friends loved it when it was Netta’s turn to sing.
She returned to Scotland several times to visit family and many relatives came to visit here, most often her beloved sister Anne.
Netta was predeceased by her husband Philip. She leaves her loving children Carol Spezzano (and husband Kevin), Philip Jackson (and wife Diana), Michael Jackson (and wife Jessica), and Kate Joliat (and husband Michael) along with her grandchildren, Cameron, Alexandra, Natalie, Samantha, Emma, Julia and Mavis.
An intimate service of family only will be held in her honor. Those wishing to view the broadcast (and recording) of Netta's Service on Thursday December 12th at 10:30 a.m. please use this link: https://my.gather.app/remember/janet-jackson-2024
