Waltham – Mrs. Janet L. (Harrington) Lee, of Waltham, died Thursday, May 12, 2022 at her home following a period of declining health. She was 81.
Janet was born in Boston on June 5, 1940, a daughter of the late John W. and Agnes L. (Murphy) Harrington. Raised in Belmont, she was a graduate of Belmont High School with the class of 1958. She married John W. Lee and the pair made Waltham their home in 1967.
Widowed at a young age, Janet began a twenty-seven year career working for the City of Waltham; she loved serving her beloved community. She worked for years in the office at Mount Feake Cemetery where her affable nature, warm smile and genuine concern for others helped grieving families navigate their darkest days.
After working in the cemetery department Janet moved to the main office of Consolidated Public Works until retiring in 2010.
Janet never sat idly and involved herself in local politics and the goings on in the city. She kept busy traveling, playing tennis, bowling, and keeping a meticulous garden at home.
Janet was the wife of the late John W. Lee and the sister of the late John E. Harrington.
She leaves her children, Jennifer L. Cline (Mark Strahan) of Norfolk and Lois C. Lee of Waltham; her grandson, John L. Cline of Telluride, Colorado; her sister, Lois P. LaMacchia of Waltham and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Janet's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 23rd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
