Janice M. Mackin was born on December 19, 1943 in Waltham a daughter of the late John F. and Gertrude R. (Guerin) Mackin. Raised in Waltham she graduated from Waltham High School and then earned her Bachelor's degree from McGill University. She earned her Master's degree in Nursing from Boston University and her PhD in Higher Education from Boston College.
Her love for adventure and travel took her to Switzerland as a young nurse. Work at Geneva Hospital was a wonderful experience and time off afforded her an opportunity for downhill skiing which she loved and learned the French language.
When back in the States she worked in Children's Hospital and later taught nursing at LaSalle College in Newton and Simmons College in Boston. She loved her work in its various capacities both practicing and teaching the students who would become nurses.
She lived in various communities including Milton, Belmont, Beverly, Newburyport and lastly Worcester as her health declined and her battle with Alzheimer's required more skilled nursing. Her family remains grateful for the wonderful care by the entire staff of Jewish Healthcare on Salisbury Street in Worcester that lovingly cared for their patient, and fellow nurse, Janice.
