Mr. Jean-Baptiste Toussaint formerly of Corona, Queens, New York, died Wednesday July 26, 2017 in Care One in Brookline. He was 84.
Born on November 28, 1932 in Cap-Haitien, Haiti he was the son of the late Claudia Toussaint. Raised and educated in Haiti, he immigrated to the United States in 1972 and settled in Corona, Queens, New York where he lived for 45 years before coming to Boston to be closer to his children and his family.
He worked as a nursing assistant for over 35 years at Cobill Hill Nursing Home in Brooklyn before retiring in 2003.
He leaves his children, Marcien Toussaint and his wife Marie-Elise Lebon in Canada, Cleante Toussaint Jean and her husband Alin Jean of Brooklyn New York, Claudie Toussaint Nicolas of Norwood Massachusetts, Magarette Toussaint of Brooklyn New York, Jean-Baptiste Toussaint Jr. and his wife Margarette Dusfrene Toussaint of Cambridge Massachusetts, Jean-Marc Toussaint and his wife Elmase Nicolas Toussaint of Brockton Massachusetts, Gabriel Toussaint of Cambridge Massachusetts, Marceline Toussaint Williams and her husband Keith Williams of Port Jervis New York. Guilene Obas of Haiti, Eddy Pierre of Florida, Marie Flavia Pierre of Haiti, Marie Joseph of Haiti, and the late Madeleine Toussaint of Haiti, his former wife Marie-Therese Valcourt of Cambridge Massachusetts. He also leaves 24 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
His cousins, Anthony Toussaint of Florida, Yolande Toussaint of New York, Marie-Ange Toussaint of New York, Denise Telemarque of New York, Roselaine Rosefort of New York, Nelly Telemarque of New York, Nicole Telemarque of New York and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jean-Baptiste's life by gathering for calling hours in Saint Angelica's Church, 1584 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan from 8:00am -10:00am on Saturday morning followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery in Roslindale.
