Mrs. Jean B. (Lee) Chin, of Needham, formerly of Newton and Cambridge passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was 84.
Jean was born in Canton, China on November 3, 1935 and immigrated to the United States at age three. Raised in Cambridge she was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge High School and later earned her Bachelor's from Simmons College summa cum laude with a degree in Chemistry. She married Harry Chin on April 19, 1959 in Saint Peter's Church in Cambridge. They were residents of Newton for over 55 years before moving to Needham.
Jean had a thirty year career working for IBM and Sylvania/GTE before retiring.
She was an active member in her communities and helped create a marching band for youth in Boston's Chinatown. She tutored elementary students in math and loved to cook and bake for her family, tend to her plants, spend time with friends and was an avid fan of the New England Patriots. Jean will be lovingly remembered as a sweet woman, a thoughtful and caring angel.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, Harry she leaves her sons, Gary L. Chin (Cara) of Portland, Oregon, Laurence D. Chin (Judy) and Jason H. Chin (Irene) all of Needham; her grandchildren Ryan, Brendan, Madeleine, Garrett, Brady and Mia; her siblings Nellie Wong (Edward) of Waltham, Robert Lee (Maureen) of Sudbury, Eveline Tierney (Paul) of Bristol, Maine and the late Victor and Arthur Lee, Helen Jew and Ann Wong; also survived by many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jean's life by gathering for calling hours on Friday, January 31st , from 4 to 8 pm in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1st in Saint Joseph's Church, 1382 Highland Avenue, Needham at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
